During every school holiday, PSCL run dance,ย  gymnastics, yoga, football and multisport courses at various venues across Greater Manchester.

As per current government guidance we are able to offer provision when:

– reasonably necessary to enable their parents and carers to work, search for work, undertake education or training, or attend a medical appointment or address a medical need, or attend a support group

– being used by electively home educating parents as part of their existing arrangements for their child to receive a suitable full-time education

– being used as part of their efforts to obtain a regulated qualification, meet the entry requirements for an education institution, or to undertake exams and assessments

And to:

– Vulnerable children

– children on free school meals, where they are attending as part of the Department for Educationโ€™s holiday activities and food programme

Places will go on sale from Wednesday 3rd March at 10am to children who attend the school at which the holiday courses are being held. Passwords to access the bookings will be sent to every family by email from their school (St Thomas’, Acacias & Fairway).

Remaining places will go on sale from Monday 8th March at 10am. This process is in place to limit the mixing of children from different schools attending the courses.

The course will follow strict Covid guidance to enhance the safety of children, staff and the wider community. This includes:

Staggered drop off times

Bubbles of 15 children that remain consistent all week

Week bookings only

Asymptomatic testing for PSCL coaches

Each bubble has their own designated coach to reduce mixing

Cleaning of equipment, touch points throughout the venue

Temperature checks upon arrival

Hand hygiene

Courses are strictly for children only! Therefore, parents are able to leave their children safe in the knowledge that every child is supervised throughout the day by our team of qualified, enthusiastic sports coaches.

What to expect:

  • Fun, engaging sessions for every child
  • Every coach is DBS checked
  • Course leaders undergo specialist โ€˜Designated Safeguarding Leadโ€™ training.
  • Paediatric first aid trained coaches
  • Stringent safeguarding throughout
  • Safe and clean venues
  • Extensive Covid-19 operating procedures

Courses generally begin with warm up exercises and games, before progressing to the delivery, introduction and enhancement of specific skills aimed at improving your childโ€™s ability. Each session concludes with competitive games for all to enjoy!

In addition to the above, we also offer an early drop from 8am and a late pick up service, which runs until 5:30pm at the St. Thomasโ€™. Both have a small daily charge.

Holiday Courses we can offer

Dance & Gymnastics Holiday Courses

Boys and girls of any ability can attend the courses, which are open 9.30am โ€“ 3.30pm (Early drop off and late pick up also available) . Ages are restricted to children 5-12 years old, this is to maximise the enjoyment of the children participating.

The dance sessions are led by Kerry Foster and Keely McQuillan. Kerry has a B TEC Triple Distinction in Dance and Performing Arts, Level 4 UKCA Cheerleading qualification and is UKA trained in Ballet and Tap.

The Gymnastics sessions are led by PSCLโ€™s Head of Gymnastics is Nicola Beresford, Emily Wheatcroft and Kelly Miller. Nicola has a Level 3 Gymnastics qualification and has Qualified Teacher Status as a Primary Teacher. Nicola is a member of the British Gymnastics Foundation and regularly coaches at Wigan & Ashton Gymnastics Club.

At the end of the week every child will be part of the PSCL presentation. Every child will receive a PSCL certificate. Trophies are also awarded to recognise excellent effort and achievement.
When attending a Dance & Gymnastics course every child will require:

  • Suitable clothing allowing full range of movement
  • Footwear for indoor dance activities
  • Plenty of still drinks
  • Packed lunch and a small snack for morning break

Football Holiday Courses

Boys and girls of any ability can attend the courses, which are open 9.30am โ€“ 3.30pm. Ages are restricted to children 5-12 years old, this is to maximise the enjoyment of the children participating. Children will be split into small groups based on age and ability.
During the week every player will take part in a variety of games and practices that are designed to improve their technique and skill. Each day the coaches will set up mini football matches and World Cup style tournaments. The week culminates with a tournament involving all the players with gold and silver medals for the two finalists. The tournament is followed by the end of week presentation. Every child will receive a PSCL certificate. Trophies are also awarded to recognise excellent effort and achievement.
When attending a football course every child will require:

  • Suitable football kit consisting of t shirt, shorts, jumper, tracksuit, rain coat
  • Football boots / trainers to wear on the grass pitches
  • Shin pads
  • Plenty of still drinks, a packed lunch and a small snack for morning break

Multi Sports Holiday Courses

ย During the day, all the schools perimeters are locked, keeping all the children safe. The children get warmed up in age based groups to prepare their bodies for the days sporting activities.

The coaches set up various sports each session during the day, which the children then can decide which sport or activity they would like to take part in. Each sports session begins with a skills practice. This allows the children to explore the sport with the guidance of our fantastic coaches. During a week at a PSCL multi sports course the children will play the following sports and games:

โ€ข Netball
โ€ข Dodgeball
โ€ข Rounders
โ€ข Football
โ€ข Athletics
โ€ข Target Games And much, much moreโ€ฆ

On the final day of the courses the children can choose to either take part in the Multi Skills Olympics or the Football World Cup tournament. There are medals for the successful teams and individuals which are presented at the end of week presentation. Every child will receive a PSCL certificate, trophies and medals are awarded to recognise excellent efforts and achievement.

Children who attend the multi sports course will need to bring:

  • Suitable sports kit consisting of t shirt, shorts, tracksuit, raincoat
  • Trainers for playground and indoors
  • Football boots and shin pads for those wishing to play football
  • Plenty of still drinks
  • Packed lunch and a small snack for morning break
